About Free Late Night Music in The Loft with Holly Montgomery Band

I have a picture of me when I was 5 years old singing with my mom at one of her gigs, so I guess I???ve been playing music forever. I am a singer-songwriter and bass player originally from Louisville, KY, transplanted to L.A. and then again to Washington DC. I started out studying classical piano, played trombone in high school and college. One day I was listening to ???Spirit of the Radio???, singing along to the bass line, and realized that I was a pretty good singer and just had to be a bass player.

Fast forward to L.A. ??? Now I???ve got my own band HOLLY, recorded 3 albums, playing at the House of Blues, I???m in a band called Big Planet that was awarded ???Best Acoustic Band in Los Angeles by the National Academy of Songwriters, Dan Bern, all-girl modern country band The Mustangs, John Ford Coley, and I even recorded with Ice Cube.

Now here I am in DC, I recorded two albums and wrote the theme songs for lots of major charities including S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat). I recorded 3 of those songs (My Brother???s Keeper, Looking for the Road, and Sweetest Dreams) with guitarist Randall Hall (Lynyrd Skynyrd), and drummer and rock legend Aynsley Dunbar (Journey, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, and Jefferson Starship). I opened for the Oscar-winning duo ???The Swell Season??? with Mark Dignam, and for Foreigner with Billy White Acre. So??? the 5-year-old girl from Kentucky is all growed up now and writing her own songs, still loving to play bass, having a blast, and even plays Spirit of the Radio with my band!
