Virginia Music Adventures Presents: Summer Institute Ensembles and Guest Artist Doc Dikeman Big Band!

Virginia Music Adventures presents a night of jazz featuring Virginia Music Adventures' Summer Institute Ensembles, VMA's award winning Faculty/Alumni Band, and a special guest appearance from the Doc Dikeman Big Band! Virginia Music Adventures' Summer Institute Ensembles continue to delight audiences performing jazz through the ages from Swing to Funk. The Ensembles are made up of promising young musicians who share their passion for jazz in performances all around the world. In the last several months VMA's groups have performed in Mexico, Guatemala, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, and throughout Virginia and Washington, DC. Taking the stage along with the Summer Institute will be the Doc Dikeman Big Band, which has been performing for over 40 years.


The Doc Dikeman Big Band features a range of music from big band favorites from the 30's to contemporary compositions. Started by Theron "Doc" Dikeman in the 1970's, the band has toured Germany and Barbados and has performed at many venues in the DC area, including the Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, the Kennedy Center, and the Music Center at Strathmore. Under the direction of Steve Lovecchio, the band is made up of inspired and dedicated musicians from the Washington DC Area.
