If there’s anyplace else in the country that boasts American pride better than Washington DC, we should move the Capitol to it. Unlike other cities where the televisions are dominated by hometown teams, Washington DC is the place to find general American-sports pride on every screen, whether the playing team is from the area or not. Aside from the hardcore Steelers fans at The Pour House, no one ever seems to know whom they’ll be watching duke it out on the gridiron or the court, and more importantly, no one seems to care. Just the act of watching sports is enough for most Washingtonians, especially when there’s plenty of liquor involved. Sports bars are generally choose to be on the less classy end of the entertainment spectrum, opting for hi-def televisions and massive projection screens in lieu of plush draperies and fine art. So, while no one can expect to be lazily stretched out on velvet couches for the game, they can anticipate having the television equivalent of front row seats.

Stetson's Famous Bar and Grill
1610 U St., NW, Washington, D.C.; Tel. 202.667.6295
Slim are the chances of a real cowboy strutting into Stetson's, but this Washington, D.C., bar and grill does have an air of rebellious swagger. With plenty of domestic beers on tap and hot wings going for $.25 on Wednesdays and Sundays, this is a place where you can eat, drink, and be merry for less than the cost of one cocktail at most of the upscale bars that dominate the U Street area. Sports fans looking for a place to watch the game at a Washington, D.C., bar will be pleased to know that Stetson's has a HDTV projector screen and numerous TVs, as well as pool tables, darts and pinball. The scent of cigarette smoke and cheap beer add to this dive-bar atmosphere, and jukebox classics like Elvis and The Rolling Stones will give you something to shake your inebriated hips to. A stellar late-night menu that includes above-average burgers, piles of nachos and crunchy Southwest rolls make Stetson's a D.C. bar worth diving into.

The Pour House
319 Pennsylvania Ave., SE, Washington DC; Tel. 202.546.1001
A Washington, D.C., neighborhood sports bar that was once dedicated to the Pittsburgh Steelers, The Pour House has recently changed ownership, and though still a sports bar, the hardcore Steeler emphasis has since dissipated. Now the tavern boasts dozens of TVs throughout its three levels, and an awkward tiki-bar in the lower level has been replaced by a more comfortable, classic sports bar setting. The upper level martini lounge, known as the "Top of the Hill," is still a popular place to watch Steelers games, and Tuesday nights feature drink specials and the fast-paced trivia game Quizzo.
