Every state in the union has a capital, but there's only one national Capitol: Washington, D.C. For generations past and for generations to come, the District of Columbia's one and only city has come to represent many things to many people. Its most famous buildings are the White House, Washington Monument and Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, and its most famous resident will, of course, always be the U.S. President.
It's hard not to feel inspired by the politics and patriotism that shaped this great city, which currently is home to some 572,000 residents and homes with median values upwards of $351,500. Its major source of income is tourism, which generates more than $10 billion yearly. That's not surprising, since Washington is home to not only the above attractions but also to the 15 distinct museums under the Smithsonian Institute umbrella, not to mention the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Holocaust Memorial Museum and memorials to those who died in three wars: Vietnam, Korea and World War II.
And then there's the "softer" side of D.C., which includes hundreds of establishments as eclectic as the United States itself. From bed-and-breakfasts to unique restaurants to a rich shopping and business district, this city has something for everyone. Pride of ownership even extends to the myriad neighborhoods, which have names and identities as if they were actual cities. Some even consider themselves "villages," although Washington, D.C. is their postal address. Most are a blend of residential and commercial. Among the many neighborhoods are Adams-Morgan, Bloomingdale, Columbia Heights, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Glover Park, Hillcrest and Woodley Park.
Tell us exactly what kind of Washington, D.C. real estate you are looking for, and our exclusive Washington, D.C. realtor will help to find it for you!
