About Young Summer

Everything Young Summer (a.k.a. Bobbie Allen) does as an artist, she approaches with incredible intensity. Faced with a period of stage fright early in her career, she overcame it, as she likes to say, by “steamrolling through it.”

There’s also a strong word Allen uses to describe her creative process: “deliberate.” From the synthesizer sounds that shift with each track; to mining her favorite ‘80s influences such as The Cure, Prince and Annie Lennox; to the songwriting process and order of the tracks, she refused to leave anything to chance. As a result, her new album Siren flows and swirls in dreamy electro-pop fashion—and true to the title, spotlights a gossamer voice that floats on the surface of each song, luring the listener in.

Young Summer has ambitious plans for taking the songs from Siren live. Coming off a successful 11-day tour of England (which featured a successful show at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton), she’s ready to reveal herself as true and real on stage as she is in the studio.

Indeed, her respect for the listener runs as deep as her own passion for music. “I want people to see themselves in the music, to connect with it and feel it in their bones,” she says. “Music has been so important to me all my life because it intensified moments and made me feel like others are going through what I am. It articulated how I felt in a way I couldn’t or made joyful times even more so. I hope my music does that for the listener and more.”

And with Siren, she certainly has. Take it out on your own road trip. As you do, keep an ear out for Young Summer’s voice, breathy and beautiful, calling out to you, indeed, like a siren.
